Do I Need To Service My Boiler?
All oil (Kerosene 28sec) boilers require a full service every 12 months (6months for Gas oil 35sec) to maintain optimum efficiency, to keep the appliance in good working order, to keep it safe and overall to save you money so you are not wasting (or loosing) oil from your system.
Safety of the boiler is of utmost importance, OFTEC standards and Regulations are changing all the time, so when an OFTEC engineer calls to service your appliance he will inform you of any changes needed to improve safety of the appliance or the oil storage tank.
Below is a small list of parts that are advisable to be changed at service intervals.
Oil Nozzle this should be changed annually to keep optimum appliance performance.
Flexible Fuel Pipe this should be changed every 3 years to prevent any unnecessary oil leaks causing damage to your floor.
Fuel Filter this should be changed/cleaned or checked annually to prevent fuel blockage to boiler or malfunction to remote firevalve.
Other parts that need to be checked.
Heat exchanger needs to be cleaned annually to allow optimum heat transfer to the water in the system.
Burner parts need to be cleaned annually to prevent restriction/blockage of supply air to ensure full combustion. Especially important if you have pets, as the fur causes blockages very quickly.
Flue ways need to be checked/cleaned to ensure proper exhaust of harmful gasses from building.
Remote firevalve position and condition need to be checked annually.
Supply air to appliance (ventilation), either via balanced flue or air vent needs to be kept checked.
Other things that need to be considered.
If parts of the boiler are not changed at the recommended intervals then Harmful gasses could be leaking into your household causing nuisance headaches or at the worst Death from Lethal CO (carbon Monoxide).
If the boiler is serviced every 6months/12months then it will run more efficiently.
Also if the boiler is serviced every 6months/12months then the life of the boiler will be longer saving you money in the long run.
It maybe a condition of your house insurance that you have adequate fire protection (remote firevalve) and that if you make a claim your insurance may well be void or you are not covered, check your policy.
Remember "If you look after the boiler with annual services then the boiler will look after you with comfort"
